NFL Gamecock Roundup: Munnerlyn embarrassed

- Minnesota Vikings cornerback Captain Munnerlyn sounded off as a member of an embarrassed Vikings squad that was manhandled in a 20-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Like most of his teammates, Munnerlyn was angry about the loss, but had little answer for the team's performance. From the Pioneer Press on TwinCities.com:

"It wasn't at all like us," said Munnerlyn. "I don't know what it was, but that team that played Monday night, it wasn't us."

SB Nation's 49ers fan blog, NinersNation.com, got a chance to sit down with Mike Davis this past week. It's not the most engrossing interview, due in part to Davis' short answers to the typically standard questions almost every rookie gets ("How are you adjusting to the speed of the NFL?" "What do you miss most about college life?"). Most interesting to note is that Davis referred to rival running back Jerryd Hayne as Jerrod, which further fuels my speculative fire that Davis and fellow former Gamecock Bruce Ellington probably hate this Australian rugby player for being given more opportunities than either of them have had. An internet sensation does not a good player make, Jim Tomsula.

The Sacramento Bee has a nice piece up about the 49ers new dedication to using their tight ends, noting that the Niners used a three tight end set 34 times in Monday's game against the Vikings, a set that they only used 10 times ALL of last season. This is great news for Busta Anderson, who is currently injured and out until at least Week Six. Anderson made a good impression during the preseason, and being able to come back mid-season, when there will likely be players needing rest or rehab is quite the blessing in disguise.

- Aynor alumnus and current Cincinnati Bengal T.J. Johnson will be honored by the team and have his number retired during a ceremony at halftime of the game against West Columbus tomorrow night. Johnson wore 64 with Aynor, and started a remarkable 53 straight games for USC. A good bit of trivia for you: Johnson is the only Gamecock to start in four consecutive victories over Clemson. Not bad, big man! The game will kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
