NFL Gamecock Roundup: Gilmore shuts down the Jets

-Yesterday's Thursday Night Football turned out mighty fine for Stephon Gilmore, as his Buffalo Bills beat the New York Jets 22-17. For his part, Gilmore was a menace, with not just two tackles but two pass deflections as well. Buffalo's entire secondary was on point, picking off Ryan Fitzpatrick twice and forcing him to complete less than half of his passes.

-Stop me if you've heard this before, but Alshon Jeffery sat out of yesterday's practice due to injury. This time it's a groin injury, so it's appropriate that this feels like a kick to the cajones. Alshon is in dangerous territory here, and is getting a whiff of "injury-prone" pie from the media's kitchen. What I'm trying to say is the media is on the verge of labeling him as injury-prone. I don't know why I tried to make the kitchen/pie analogy. Sounded good in my head. It should be noted, either way, that Chicago Bears head coach John Fox expects Jeffery to play on Sunday.

-SB Nation's Atlanta Falcons blog, The Falcoholic, did a great dive into why Patrick DiMarco isn't just a good fullback; he might be the best in the league. DiMarco has been on three different mid-season All-Pro lists, and is on the field more than any other fullback in the league. Most importantly though, you can look at the breakout season Devonta Freeman is having (721 yards in 9 games) and see the kind of impact Patty is having.

-Detroit Lions defensive end Devin Taylor spoke with the Macomb Daily recently about his consistent performance this season, and finally finding his groove. “For me I just wanted to find a way to get myself personally better every week, week-in and week-out, whether stabbing someone here or there or getting off a block,” Taylor told the Daily on Thursday. “So for me now I feel comfortable enough when situations come I’m relaxed and I know how to handle them. Before, it was a little bit like I was thinking too much.”
